Clowning around at IRT Crown Gardens
Residents at IRT Crown Gardens Care Centre recently enjoyed a day of frivolity, face painting and bright red noses as part of a Clown Themed Day.
The circus came to the Care Centre’s Sunshine Lounge, which was decorated with balloons and streamers, and residents and staff were dressed in brightly coloured wigs and clothing.
The fairy floss stall was very popular during the day and struggled to keep up with demand. Residents played games, enjoyed cake decorating and playing pranks on one another.
For many residents the day was also filled with nostalgia as they vividly recalled attending the circus with their children, and even when they themselves were children.
IRT Crown Gardens resident, Norma Kennedy remembered the first time she purchased fairy floss for her children. She bought one serve for the two to share. Norma’s young daughter decided to save her fairy floss for the next day. The following morning Norma was woken by the sound of her daughter in the kitchen. On investigation Norma found her daughter in tears; someone had destroyed her fairy floss. It was a small, pink coloured puddle. Norma’s daughter’s fairy floss had of course, dissolved over night. To this day Norma recalls that story with great amusement.
Everyone at IRT Crown Gardens would like to thank Lifestyle Officer Sue Tuchel for the hard work she put into organising such a great day.
IRT Crown Gardens Lifestyle Officers are looking to recruit volunteers to assist with a range of activities at the Care Centre, including computer tutoring, one on one visits, chess games, outings, craft, men’s groups and more.
