An update on the development application at
Elements at IRT Towradgi Beach

In December 2022, we submitted a revised development application (DA) after working with Wollongong City Council representatives to update the design of the village to address concerns regarding maximum flood levels. While the revised proposal comprehensively addressed key concerns regarding maximum flood levels, the decision has been made to again withdraw the proposal.

We expect to submit a revised proposal in six to eight weeks, which will include:

  • additional supporting reports and design modifications that emphasise the development’s flood management capabilities.
  • a clearer depiction of the significant improvements we seek to make for the site and the future of seniors’ living.

Following this, the community will have another opportunity to review the updated proposal and offer feedback.

As part of the process of master planning and design for the redevelopment of IRT Towradgi Park, we offered opportunities for residents and the broader community to submit their ideas or aspirations for the seniors living redevelopment through a collaborative design process.

Ageing in place at Elements at IRT Towradgi Beach

Elements at IRT Towradgi Beach has been designed to encourage ageing in place, with villas and apartments that meet the changing needs of older Australians so that your new home is your home for life.

Villa & apartment design

Each villa and apartment has been designed to provide you comfort in a safe and flexible environment. Bathrooms and kitchens have been fitted out with stylish and safe fixtures and fittings, and can be easily adapted to meet any accessibility issues.

Appliances are installed at easy-to-reach height levels and trip hazards have been minimised throughout your new home. Some homes also have live-in care adaptability: they are specifically designed to adjust to ageing needs, allowing for a carer’s room if required.

Community design

The village design places community activity and open space at its core with outdoor areas that encourage social interaction and passive through to active recreation. Community landscape features are designed to create an environment that encourages health and wellbeing including walking tracks, vegetable gardens, fitness nodes and green terraces.

Much of the design focuses around integration into the natural setting with a coastal theme and the village is easy to move around by foot, scooter or car. Another key consideration in the community design is creating an intergenerational landscape – an environment that is inclusive for younger and older age groups.

Technology

Each home may come with an emergency response system, an in-home 24/7 security system that uses voice activation and access to other safety and health monitoring features. You can also use our handy app, IRT Connect, to access the village activity calendar, maintenance booking system and important village information. Through the app, you’ll also enjoy access to the Entertainment Hub where you can watch on-demand TV and movies through your home television.

Training will be provided on how to use IRT Connect once you have settled into your new home.
