Peter named top trainee
IRT Dalmeny Trainee Care Services Employee, Peter Buttrey has won theTrainee award in the 2011 Aged and Community Services State Awards for Excellence.
The Trainee Award celebrates the outstanding achievements of an employee who is studying and working towards a qualification in the aged care sector. Peter received his award at the Awards presentation dinner in Sydney last week.
Working in aged care is a significant career change for Peter, who was a local real estate agent for 20 years before joining IRT Dalmeny as a Trainee Care Services Employee at in August 2010.
IRT Area Manager Eurobodalla, Helen Spence said Peter had easily risen to the challenges of a very different career.
“In the short time Peter has been employed as a trainee at IRT Dalmeny he has shown an exemplary work ethic. Nothing is a problem to Peter and he has fitted into our team culture from the beginning,” Helen said.
“Peter is always positive in his outlook and approach and is a valuable member of the IRT Dalmeny team. He asks questions and is eager to learn. He has adapted to care work very well and his study and class contributions are also at a very high standard.”
“Peter remains calm in difficult situations and is viewed by other staff members as a mentor, guide and father figure. He has provided wonderful support to our younger trainees, some of whom completed Year 12 in 2010,” Helen said.
“Peter has demonstrated clear leadership qualities, and we will be encouraging him to undertake further study once he completes his Certificate III.”
As a result of his win, Peter has been nominated for the Aged and Community Services Australia national awards to be announced later this year.
